too late / too early to DIY?

what do you consider too early or to late to DIY?

start scraping wallpaper off at 06:00?
stop tiling at 22:00?

what tasks do you consider too noisy to do before or after a certain time?

I mean obviously it's not on to be drilling holes in walls at 6am, or after about 8pm, but what about scraping walls?

Much depends on the circumstances, and how sensitive your neighbours are to noise. If you are in a terraced or semi-detached house, the noise of scraping off wallpaper will transmit through a party wall. 6.00 am is far too early, especially the neighbour's room is a bedroom.

Bear in mind that even accidentally dropping tools or moving aluminium ladders around can create unwanted noise.

In the past, I've been woken up by wallpaper scraping next door. I've had to suffer another neighbour using a hammer drill at 11.00 pm. Another time, his son (who lived on the other side of us) started work with a club hammer and bolster on his concrete floor at ten past midnight.

A lot of problems can be ironed out by talking to neighbours before work starts, and by showing consideration. By and large, keeping to 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Saturday is a reasonable guide. Making significant house repair noise outside those times calls for asking very nicely first.

Desperate times call for desperate measures! Given this seems to be a one-off, I wouldn't worry about it. If you see the neighbours, apologise and blame the plasterer
