For various reasons we need to remove the fireplace cast iron insert without removing the fire surround.

What's the best tool that will cut through the cast iron easily?

Thanks

Easily?

I don't thing there is an 'easy' way. We would use either an angle grinder... or ....if you don't want huge amounts of fumes, dust and swearing then we would look at buying a suitable blade for the reciprocating saw.

Cast iron shatters when struck with a large enough hammer. If you can get to the lining and ensure all..all..ties to the surround are removed, then striking it will shatter it, not easily to start with but once going...Just be aware, no matter how you go about it there will be significant mess as the back of the steel will be packed to the shape of the chimney wall.

A decent quality ''TURBO''diamond blade is ideal.
Marcrist is best- but- a Spectrum TP10 will do the job as good .
Try and damp the blade down while you cut- or get someone stood close and point a vacuum cleaner hose at the cutting area.
Decent blade and job will be done in a minute or less.
