Hi,

Our rear wall is being extended and return wall being knocked down to increase size of kitchen (1)

BCO has advised that the cavity needs opening up and skins toothing together to continue wall.

Builder says he can't tooth in as the gauge of the old blockwork to the new doesn't match.
Can you use wall starters on the end of a wall to continue a cavity or only suitable on the side of a brick face? (2)

Has he already started laying bricks/blocks elsewhere? IF so it's his problem to fix. Its really a pretty basic issue to have to deal with and as woody has pointed out they should have spotted it.

I'm no bricklayer but even I knew to check the gauge of the brickwork I built up to so as to make sure everything lined up correctly.

It's a bit of a awkward wall.

The existing wall has a 9inch solid wall in imperial at the base (1) with a metric 250mm cavity wall above (2) from a previous extension.

We're extending this wall along it's length and the continuing down the side of the house . The guys have built up from dpc in block as being rendered so doesn't line up quite at the steelwork.

Can you use wall starters off the end of a skin of brickwork to continue it to account this?
