did anyone watch that documentary about animal fights a while back on Sky? Apparently a rhino tops all, destroying a grizzly in one charge. I know a rhino or elephant aren't predators, but still....!
A lion's paw can easily cover a man's face WITH claws retracted.
If it swiped at your head....your whole face would disappear in a bloodied mass.

Human's suck in a straight fight with most predators. Our skill is making the weapons as we weren't born with any. Then hoping we can use them better than the 4 legged predator.....cos we sure as **** can't outrun 'em if they don't work.

Read a story once about a bloke in the States got attacked by a mountain lion. A group were out cycling and the lion jumped one of them. It bit into him and tried to drag him off. The rest of the group were hitting the lion with anything they could find. I remember one saying he hit it as hard as he could continuously on the top of the head with a very large rock. The lion didn't even blink. Eventually they scared it off with a personal alarm. The bloke survived but he wasn't very well.

A lion against an unarmed human? It's no contest really, not out in the open. It's a problem our ancient ancestors had to face when they ventured out onto the plains. Basically, we were cat food.

Having said that, there's something in a lion's mentality that makes it wary of humans as long as they don't run. Anything that runs is potential food but a large animal staring straight back seems to make them think twice. Works for dogs too. I don't know about bears though.

If a big 6'8" guy can run at high speed after an african buffalo weighing nearly a ton and take it down and throttle it, then he might have a chance against the lion.
