Could I safely use an in-line 3 core 6amp torpedo switch on the 2 core cable of a small tv, the tv plug has a 3amp fuse fitted. The plug is behind a sideboard & it is a hassle having to pull the sideboard in & out to switch the tv off. The switch on the tv only puts it into standby.

You will probably find the TV only uses a fraction of a watt when in standby - usually the case where you cant knock it off standby.

Seriously though, is there no switch anywhere on the TV unit?

It's not the power consumption I'm worried about, it's the fire risk. A few years back my mates's hifi went on fire when they were in bed & they were lucky to escape, now with electrics I'm ultra cautious.

The power switch on the TV only puts it into standby.
