Tory Sleaze

"Boris began by saying that any MP who had been found to have broken the rules must be punished. Er … yes. Only he appeared to have totally forgotten that Owen Paterson had been found guilty of multiple egregious cases of paid advocacy. And that Johnson had imposed a three-line whip on his own MPs to get his suspension put on hold until the case had been re-examined by a new committee with a majority of well-disposed Tory members, who would now come to the right conclusion. It was about as sleazy as it gets.

Yet here was a Bertie Booster, admittedly on worn-out Duracell batteries, trying to portray himself as a champion of natural justice. Boris Johnson is going to be very angry when he catches up with Boris Johnson who ****ed up so badly. He could scarcely bring himself to mention Geoffrey Cox. There again, he must be sick with envy at the amount Geoff has raked in since becoming an MP."

"Still, Boris wasn’t finished. He then said there was nothing wrong with second jobs provided MPs put their constituents first. Something he had failed to do when he had carried on as London mayor despite being elected to Westminster in 2015. And he insisted his own behaviour was beyond reproach. It was just nobody’s business who paid for the redecoration of his Downing Street flat. Or if he accepted a free holiday from someone he put in the House of Lords. Wrongdoing must be punished, he said repeatedly. Perhaps he has a subconscious desire to be found out. One for his therapist.

None of this would have gone down well with Tories hoping to draw a line under the corruption scandal. Far from killing the story, Johnson had taken politics a step further into the sleaze bath by refusing to accept any responsibility. Par for the course for a self-destructive narcissist. He was asked why he didn’t stay up in Glasgow, even if the chances of a meaningful deal were minute. Just to show he cared. But then he doesn’t really. The only thing he really cares about is himself."

According to the article below, Boris's approval rating among leavers has dropped from 76% to 58%.
However this could be due to factors other than sleaze.

The Conservatives have again rejected a watchdog’s call for Boris Johnson to be stripped of the power to decide whether ministers are investigated for sleaze, despite rising public anger.

The independent committee on standards in public life made the recommendation – followed by a startling warning that Britain risk slipping into becoming “a corrupt country”.

It followed Mr Johnson’s refusal to allow investigations of Robert Jenrick and Matt Hancock, a controversy then fuelled by the botched attempt to fix anti-sleaze rules to clear Owen Paterson.

Boris is their messiah - he is the person most easily linked with Brexit, so as long as Brexit is tolerable they will tolerate Boris and excuse all of this Tory corruption.

Trump allowed his supporters to become the worst examples of themselves and Boris has followed suit, Mottie et al will excuse and defend Boris and the Tories as they brought about their golden cow - Brexit.

"Tory minister Nadhim Zahawi banked £1.3million from an oil company while working as an MP, but he has been able to keep his total second job earnings hidden due to a Parliamentary loophole.

Mr Zahawi’s total earnings from Gulf Keystone Petroleum included a final £285,000 “settlement payment” after he first became a Government minister in 2018.

Mr Zahawi was co-chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kurdistan in 2015 when he landed the job with Gulf Keystone, which has an oil field in Kurdistan and which paid him more than £1,000 an hour.

His Gulf Keystone income was declared in his register of interests, but his total second job earnings are not known thanks to Parliamentary rules allowing him to advise companies through Zahawi & Zahawi Ltd, a consultancy he set up with his wife.

Mr Zahawi did not respond to a request for comment.

But Sir Alistair Graham, a former Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, said: “This could be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to get around the rules so that he doesn’t have to admit the scale of his earnings in a consultant capacity."

Johnson tried to sneak through his U turn right at the end of the commons session to avoid scrutiny.

but a Tory MP objected………so at least there’s one Tory MP with a hint of integrity.

Diverting NHS funds into private healthcare contracts and into MPs pockets……

personally I wouldn’t call defrauding the taxpayer a perk

That's because you're not like mottie.

Good on you.

What was it ex-Prime Minister Cameron said about tax-dodging schemes being unacceptable?

"A UK government minister invested in a tax scheme involving unused data centres which is being contested by HM Revenue & Customs. Lord David Wolfson QC, a justice minister, invested in a scheme in 2011 that generated £134m in tax allowances for hundreds of investors who paid £79m towards the construction of two data centres in Tyneside that have since sat empty."

Look the likely lads on here. They don't care about any of this other than can they punch down on people they see who are below them. They don't mind Tory MPs being corrupt as they see them as a class above themselves so happily accept the golden shower as it lets them rain down their own hatred on those below them - poor, on benefits, disabled etc.

The nasty party knows its supporters.

“I genuinely believe that the UK is not remotely a corrupt country,” insisted Johnson last week. Voters may need to be persuaded that the same is true of Conservative MPs."

"Johnson, after being elected for his Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat, which is close to the west London airport, told supporters: “I will lie down with you in front of those bulldozers and stop the building, stop the construction of that third runway.”

Hmm...

"Another detail of Boris Johnson’s largely-free holiday to southern Spain last month has emerged after the prime minister declared £1,800 of hospitality from Heathrow.
The declaration was made in the latest update to the register of MPs’ interests, where donations or other gifts must be set out, with their value. Johnson used the Windsor suite at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 on 7 October, when he was en route to Málaga."

What's the bet on another 'convenient' U-turn?

"Philip Dunne, the Tory MP for Ludlow, has called for more military spending without declaring his £425-an-hour job with an aerospace company.

The former defence minister has earned £51,000 since July last year working for Reaction Engines, an Oxfordshire-based manufacturer of propulsion systems, according to his register of interests.

At the same time, Mr Dunne has consistently asked questions in Parliament demanding greater military spending, The Times first reported.

Representatives of Reactions Engines have met ministers 11 times since the start of last year, with the company awarded a grant worth £3.9 million by the UK Space Agency in July."
