All Governments since the Good Friday agreement have compromised on jail terms for murderers...

But why should soldiers be treated any different if they have also committed murder?

Or should a particular uniform/creed provide immunity from investigation?

Therein lies the route to a return to the cycle of violence!
What a load of contradictory nonsense, Blair gave IRA terrorists (without trial ) an amnesty.
If the IRA are no longer accountable for their crimes why should ex service men be hounded for alleged offences from 40 years ago.

It is an utter outrage,,,I am all for Peace and reconciliation for the future good of Ireland...If they are going after the Paras,,then why not dig up The IRA bombings again..utter utter pizz take.

Why do people keep confusing diplomacy and peace talks with supporting terrorists?
Because they keep bringing up the topic,,,via backstop fekin good friday agreement,,therefore pizzing off IRA,,etc,,,that is why

A terrorist is only a terrorist to those who feel terrorised.
Your next door neighbour who complains about the size of your hedge could be classified as a terrorist if he appears at your front door with a chainsaw threatening to cut down your hedge without your consent.
Stretching it a bit to suggest overgrown hedge is a political issue

Well in actual fact it wasn't an amnesty, but a 'release on licence'...

And as part of that it was made clear that there would still be prosecutions should new evidence be found.

That is what has happened with the ex service men...

And you're a tad out of date as regards 'amnesty'...

"The cornerstone is a new, independent Historical Investigations Unit (HIU) that will take over the caseload of those deaths reviewed by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) that require further investigation.

It will also provide relatives with as much information and support as is possible.

But the government has avoided controversy by rejecting the most contentious and explosive issue of all. Amnesty.

There were attempts to have it included in the early draft of legislation, the result of a campaign by Northern Ireland veterans facing prosecution for killings decades ago.

Such an amnesty, legally defined as a "statute of limitations", was recommended by MPs on the Defence Select Committee and championed by veterans' supporters at Westminster and the military.

However, the amnesty envisaged only applied to soldiers, although arguably under international law, it could not be selective and, controversially, would have to apply to the IRA and other groups."

IF you get upset over using a picture of someone for target practice, wait until you see what they do in their day job. :)

Is it shocking because they were missing the target ?
