Hi, maybe a simple question but I'm not sure who to ask.
We had some work done on the house and now we noticed that things were not done as they should have. Should we ask the same team who has done the work to correct it or pay someone else to avoid further disappointment?
It is worth adding that we have a situation where the company thinks they know what they are doing but the reality is contrary and we are worried that when they come back to sort out / correct few things they'll just mess up something else.

Thanks

Invite the firm to confirm if their work is correct, and what was contacted, and to correct any defective work. If need be, pay someone to report on the work and specify how it should be done. If it is in fact defective, recall the original firm to correct it to your specification, not theirs, and at their cost. Reclaim the cost of the report if the work was defective.

Otherwise, you are in exactly the same situation with any new firm you decide to appoint.

Normally a Building Surveyor would do this, if its general building work. Or you specialise for specialist work - Structural Engineer for structural work, Gas Engineer for gas, Electrical Engineer for electrics and such like.

You need to ensure that whoever reports is a member of their professional body - the higher up and more qualified the better, and if you think this may go to court, ensure they have done Expert Witness reports under CPR part 35
