I am trying to replace 3 treads on the stairs but the only firm I can find that supply them in the width and height I want is Skirting Boards Direct which has an horrendous list of negative feedback on trustpilot. This has put me off ordering from them.

Are there and trustworthy alternatives for ordering on the internet as even my local wood yard or BQ type stores dont sell treads except for decking

Unless you tell us what special tread you need it will be difficult to help .

Personally I wouldn't trust the internet for this type of thing. As for your treads, all they are is planed and thicknessed timber to a specific thickness with a bull nose machined on one edge (although you could do the bullnosing yourself yourself with a block plane, a cardboard template and some sanding paper). Any joinery shop should be able to supply timber machined to the right sizes. An additional thought, though, have you given any thought to the glue blocks and wedges? They will need to match the originals

I am replacing the main stair case with a cut down metal fire escape. Bit like this but not as grand or expensive and in a two up two down terrace with the bit on the back. I just want to keep the three stairs on the landing leading from the extension to the main part of the house. They dont have to match anything so pine would be OK and I can oil or stain them to the colour I want. The rest of the structure is sound and I can clean the old risers, keep them in place and stain the new wood to match.

I can only find that one company that supplies them in the sizes I want and local joinery companies are too expensive If I can buy them ready made at the right size like from this company for £8 to £10 each it would be worth it and save me some time as I am stripping all the wood in the hall and landing back to the original wood But if that fails I will do as you say and make them up myself with some timber from the local yard Thanks
