Anybody know of a good product to use when treating the cut ends of pressure treated timber.

Putting together a deck frame, and want to treat the sawn ends of the wood.

I think Cuprinol Clear is great at preventing rot and insects. If you can stand the cut ends in a plastic tub for a while that is the best way to treat them as it can soak in. Cuprinol Green is also very good, but stains the timber (this is deliberate so you can see what's been treated). It fades slowly in sunlight. They both smell of solvent for a week or more while they dry out. They cost in the region of £25 for a 5-litre can. They are poisonous so wear PVC gloves (not rubber) and overalls that you can dry off before washing (or throw away).

There are other, cheaper brands available. the water-based ones don't penerate anywhere near as well.

use the proper end cut preservative , waste of money getting timber pressure treated and then sticking any old crap on the end

cuprinol is ok for what it is made for , but it is not a cut end treatment .

Press ure treating is a "envelope" treatment , if you dont use the right product on any cut ends then the envelope doesnt work - so you may as well not bother getting it treated in the first place

it will probably explain it better here - http://www.protim.ie/
