Triangular landing?

We have 3 steps up into 2 bedrooms in a side extension. The previous owner had made them into one long room but we are making it back into 2.

Could we have a triangular landing like this:

Or would it have to be square like this:

My missus wants it one way, I want it the other. Are there any regulations regarding landing that could help us choose?

Approved Doc. K is not "the regulations" on stairs, as long-standing members of the forum should know

The actual regulation is K1, which simply states:

'stairs shall be designed, constructed and installed so as to be safe for people moving in or about the building'.

Obviously a square landing would be safest, but that does not mean that a triangular landing would not be safe. If I
was an inspector, I would not necessarily rule out the triangular landing, but would consider which side the doors would be hinged on (hinged adjacent to the top rise would be safer than on the other side), and also the actual width of the narrow bit (obviously the wider the better).
But at the end of the day, a square landing would probably give a better- and more adaptable room space than the triangular version, and the triangular design probably wouldn't give any more useable bedroom space.
