Hi

Excuse my ignorance but we have moved into a new barratts house 2 years ago and have a new hot water system compared to our old building which I knew how it worked inside and out!

We have gas central heating system and tribune hot water tank.

The problem tonight is:

The heating is currently switched off and we have hot water comes on for an hour in the morning and hour at night only, this has been sufficient to our needs so far!

The bath was run at about 10pm at night and hot water used. However its now 3 am and the hot water tank is still making noises as if it is on? Think the pump is running although the boiler is definitely not on! It sounds like the immersion is on constantly (although the immersion switch is most definitely off) please help

If you know what you are doing you can check whether power is getting to the immersion heater. If you are at all unsure, get an electrician in to test it. If the immersion heater is running with no control, this is potentially dangerous as you have in effect got a massive kettle.

As it is a fairly new house, there should be a separate circuit breaker on the consumer unit for the immersion heater circuit where it can be isolated.

The pump should overun for a while after the boiler switches off but should not be running constantly. If it is, this should also be checked out.
