tks for the reply just switched mcb back to on and all things working

just to check, do you know the difference between an MCB, an RCD and an RCBO?

what is written on the thing that tripped?

how often has it tripped?

what else was running at the time? washing machine, tumbledrier, dishwasher, cooker, kettle, for example?

Are there any outside lights, shed supply, garden fountain supplied off this circuit? Had it been raining when the thing tripped?

if it was an RCD or an RCBO, the trip may have been caused lightening, or by water getting into something

hence my questions

Also did your neighbours say whether there was a short power cut. Freezers and fridges if switched of then switched back on fairly quickly can "jam" up. The pump although its running isnt able to pump anything and gets hotter and hotter usually the plug fuse blows but its just possible that the MCB went first. Because now you have left them off for some time and reset the MCB they are working fine.
