trowling direction

If laying 300 x 600 tiles. Would you run the adhesive ( trowel) in the long direction or in the short direction.
Think my solid bed trowel may be too long 400mm?

Which ever is easiest really, probably dictated by your starting point. I usually trowel at 90 degrees to the longest edge of the tile if I can but it won’t make any difference to the finished result if the tiles are correctly laid; I would keep troweling in the same direction once you’ve started.

Maybe you should have stuck with the 11” trowel!

I may well use the 11".
It is a 20mm notch only 10mm deep not 13mm.

Goes back to my advice on your original thread; you could always back butter them as tictic advised but, if you’ve limited experience, it may make it more difficult for you to level them.
