AFAIK, that's not how impeachment works. The impeachment bit (by the House) is the "guilty" part. The removal from office (by the Senate) is the sentencing part. So he was found guilty. He just avoided a sentence.

If the months roll by and the electorate don't see things getting better, or indeed maybe worse from their individual perspective, those who lent Donald their vote this time round probably won't be inclined to vote Republican next time if the Democrats can rebuild a decent opposition.

I think even his supporters in the Senate considered him guilty but felt such a verdict would cause more public disorder. The insurrection point I was making related to the specific criminal offence and would have been tried by a jury of the people.
