Trump is desperate for lower interest rates. The Fed Chairman, Powell, won't lower them because of inflation. Trump keeps threatening to sack him but the markets don't like that. The Fed is supposed to be independent. So, being TACO Trump, he keeps chickening out.
Instead, he is trying everything he can to get Powell to resign. His latest wheeze it to threaten Powell with a fraud investigation over the refurbishment of the Fed building. Trump set up another of his gotcha stings for the cameras yesterday by visiting Powell at the Fed to look at the renovations. He pulled out a work costing from his pocket and asked why the cost had gone up so much. Powell had a quick glance and pointed out it was because Trump had added in the cost of a different building which was completed five years ago. Hilarious!
