As you say though, China have become the good guys, all down to Trump. He makes up policy on the hoof without thinking.
This is the problem. Trump could have worked with allies to curtail some of China's worst behaviour. But instead he has incessantly attacked his strongest allies. And turned the whole world against the USA.

People make a choice to lie, it's not compulsory.
The consensus seems to be that Trump has blinked and caved. I'm still not sure. I go back and forth between thinking Trump has a bigger strategy and that he's a lunatic.

If there were no liars or lies, there would be no accusations. They start it.

Just remember, fake outrage, false equivalency and the egregious use of straw men are the mainstays of the right wing playbook.
