Trusses are already made up roof section spec to the drawing plan, a ready made kit which is timber saving and labour time but can make it very difficult for loft conversion in the future. The rafters are from traditional roof which is each rafter build individually and very useful if a loft conversion need to be added. Although a truss roofs type can be designed for loft conversion but cannot be modified once it's made.

you will also notice that factory-made trusses are made of very thin timber, with metal joining plates - no carpentry skills. They are scientifically designed to be as thin and cheap as possible, while able to withstand ordinary wind pressure, dead load of tiles, plasterboard etc, and the occasional fat builder clambering about. They will usually bend noticeably under Bob.

Thank you for your prompt replies , I now understand the different terminology . Another query , with regard to warm roof insulation , which would be the best way to insulate a cut pitched roof with 8 x 2 rafters ?

Trusses are a pain when you got to do a conversion, i've done about 4. The worst part is getting the floor joist in place.
