i want to take off the radiator to decorate it has a trv on it,just switching it to off on the valve is that enough or will it still leak when rad is off.

Be very careful.
Most TRVs come with a lockdown cap which you put on instead of the thermostatic head to turn the valve off.
If you turn the TRV down to 0, it MAY turn off the water completely - but it may not. Also, you may get a nasty surprise when the room cools down overnight!
If you have no lockdown cap, and the TRV head does mostly turn off the water (check by turning off TRV AND lockshield at other end, then see how much water comes out of air bleed screw), best thing is to isolate drain and remove rad, then put a cap on open side of valve. With some TRVs, this is very easy: half-inch nut from a 15mm compression fitting and a blanking disk will fit. Find a cap that'll fit.

thanks for that i thought there was something different you had to look out for, always pays to check thanks :D :D
