Does anyone know if this kind of TRV is reversable because i recently had the rad moved and the trv has gone from being silent to singing, gurgling and whistling all night long!
The only thing i can think is the plumber fitted it to the opposite pipe to its original layout.
So can i open it up and change anything?

cant really tell but they usually have arrows on the valve pointing towards the pipe and to the rad if the are reversible

I have the same trvs throughout the house and some have the 2 arrows you describe on the silver body bit and some dont? This one doesnt

So do i need to do anything to it to make it alter the flow and stop the noise?

Have you checked the back of the valve - arrows are usually on one side only.

from what i can see its not reversable so you have 2 options, take it off and turn it arround ie mout it horizontal, or take both rad valves off and swop them

singing,gurgling and whistling

doesn't sound like the kind of noises caused by a reversed TRV to me.

Try the other end, open it up a bit more. Could be the pump is close to that radiator and the plumbers done the right thing in balancing it down, but this sometimes causes the noises you describe. you'll need a small adjustable spanner probably.

I just put a mirror on the back of the valve and the arrows are there.
So what options does this leave me?

He definetely opened this valve up like you say but i thought it was because he said this was because the flow pipe wasnt getting warm quick enough? Would this make sense?
So you think i should open it even more than he did?
I just went and checked all my rads with trvs and 2 out of 7 are fitted on the return rather than the flow end.
The reason i made this post originally is because i thought if 2 way trvs were fitted on the return you had to manually adjust a pin inside to make them work properly - am i wrong?

open it I would say. Either way its probably to do with this. Any chance he might of adjusted the pump speed as well?

No the pump wasnt touched. Please check my edited post above too. Cheers for the help

no you shouldn't need to do anything to the trv if its on the return. Just fit and leave. If a one way valve is fitted the wrong way round it will normally make a tapping or banging sound when its closing down. Whistling noises are usually caused by high pump pressure being restricted by the balancing end of the valve. It will take 1min to open it right up and find out!

So you say open the lockshield end valve all the way and see if that stops noise? If it does do i leave it open and replace the cap or tighten it a bit - I know this affects the balance but not much else.
