could always drop an adapter into the new light, or a BC to ES in the old one(s) all depends how much length it adds to the lamp I guess
And I don't think ES are necessarily any easier than BC, I've certainly had more problem with ES fittings than BC.
Problem with a ES is, it will light with a poor connection to the centre contact, meaning overtime it burns out, with a BC, it's in or it's not.
There's nothing more annoying when a ES lamp breaks away from the base and you need to try and prise the base out with pliers (happens more than you'd think, especially with heat lamps)
BC ones break too, given the pushing & twisting required.
Thing is you can get an ES lamp started with just the tiniest amount of grip and applied pressure - with BC lamps it's 100% right from the get-go, or it just doesn't work at all.
