Turning electric socket into a switch for another socket

So he can properly 'switch it off', perhaps?

Even if it has a remote control and a 'standby' mode, would you advocate leaving it permanently in that 'standby' mode, particularly given that a projector is something which may well not be used all that often?

Depends on the power draw.

Also, all the projectors with which I have experience have had a switch on them.

Same here. However, maybe I have under-estimated your stature (or over-estimated the height of the OP's rooms) - would you expect to be able to reach the switch on a ceiling-mounted projector?
