Hi all,

someone asked me if it is a very good idea to keep the pilot light
on all the time in the boiler even when the hot water and/or the
central heating is not used that much, especially in the summer.

I wasn't too sure, so I had a look on the web and found this site:

Do you guys have any suggestions? Do you think the pilot light should
always be left on as turning it off and on very often might damage
the element? Or do you agree with the info on the site above?

Thanks

For every point he makes you could make a counterpoint,if your so bothered get a newer boiler which doesnt req a constant pilot to be on.

To much aggravation if you ask me, but then again, as already said if there that worried about pilot, get an electronic ignition.

Hi

Need help please.

Ive got a ariston microgenus 23 mffi boiler. I have no hw and ch. Pilot light is off and pump is working. 3 red lights on (2 for reset and one triangle in circle) Orange light (on rectangle with roof sign). Pressure is 1.5 bar. hw and ch on max.
Initially I had gas burning for few mins now there is nothing.

All was well before me removing radiator for decorating. ch and hw worked ok after reinstalling radiator 2 months go. First water went hot and cold now nothing.

Any suggestions about lights and fixing.

Thanks

taz51. You should start a new tread and not piggy back on this topic. More people will see your question as some will only be looking at this pilot light question.

Oh dear!

That link is to an American posting and relates to gas fires NOT boilers!

Its certainly worth turning off the pilot on a gas fire!

Its not worth turning off the pilot on a combi gas boiler.

If deciding to use an electric imersion heater rather than an old floor standing boiler during the summer then you could turn off the pilot.

Turning off any pilot light increases the risk that it will not work again when you want to use it !
