Can anybody help us, we have a house with oil burning cental heating system s-plan with 2 motorized valves. We also have a wood burner installed, with heat exchanger etc that is not connected, having access to large amounts of wood, we would like to use both.any suggestions would be welcome, I have various ideas including putting the return pipe to boiler through wood burner.

Twin coil cylinder with a large metal header tank or a thermal store (Dr Drivel) style

I have looked at the Dunsley system but it looks a bit complicated, but I would like to heat the rads as well, adding up the cost of the Dunsley the payback would be poor.

If its just a small stove with a low out put then connected to a twin coil vented cylinder and heat leak rad would be fine.
Routing pipes through the stove on return to the oil boiler is a bad idea.

If you heat the rads from the log burner it can be difficult to prevent significant tar deposits from forming, both in the fire and the flue.

You have to control the return temp of the water so that the fire temp is not lowered to where tar is deposited.

Surely the log burner heats a significant portion of the house anyway (they are typically 75% efficient), why funny (sic) around converting the latent heat into water then rads?

Our does just fine in this respect and my electronic thermostatic rad valves turn off in the relevant areas when the woodburner is doing what it does best.
