Is Tyvek tape good enough for a permanent solution for this tear in our roofing feelt, which is about 1.5 cam in width?

Tyvek tape is not a permanent fix for torn roofing felt, it will lift and let water in once the weather gets at it. For a tear the proper job is a patch of matching felt bonded on with bitumen mastic, lapped well past the tear. If the felt around it is brittle you are usually better off replacing that section.

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. The solar installer made this gash, and as it has been so stressful dealing with them I am almost minded to go with just the tape, but as the roof was only done 1 year ago with new felt and I don't want issuez in future, it feels like the porper thing to do is to replace it properrly, but after all their chaotic behaviour (not just to to with the gash) I am concerned they are going to casue other problems elsewhere.

Roofers seem to having varying opinions on how durable the Tyvek tape is, so it's hard to make an informed decision, but common sense tells me that anything that's stuck on with adhesive is going to come off sooner or later, especially in this warming climate.
