u value for windows

If getting double glazing installed, what u value should be aimed for?

Is 1.2 okay, or would you want it lower than this?

The lower the better, with regards to heat loss. But 1.2Wm2k would be the maximum currently allowed, measured at the centre pane.

Okay, so 1.2 isn't great then, it's just the maximum permitted.

If it was instead, say 1.0, I wonder if there is much discernible difference?
 
In heat loss for the window area it would be 20% better. But without other heat loss calcs to the remainder of the buildings fabric, would be difficult to put a figure on it.
1.2W/m2k is much better than what it used to be and perfectly fine. The max permitted is 1.6W/m2K but the building regs state 1.2 at the centre pane.

When you see companies state a headline u-value for their windows, I wonder does this refer to the Centre Pane or the Thermal Transmittance?

I've seen a couple of quotes and they just state u value is ......
