There are always a few idiots

Most Liverpool fans had respect. Can't be held responsible for a few pricks

In a lot of national team sports half the players dont sing it anyway, or mumble the words. Let every fan who wants to, sing it from the stands, that can’t be banned. BTW EUFA ban the national anthem being sung by any of the participating nation’s teams.

Blup

It's to be expected that displays of loyalty to the crown will be divided along sectarian lines between Rangers (Protestant/Unionist) and Celtic (Catholic/Republican).

Not unexpected from such a team's supporters, I think our country/democracy is robust enough to withstand it.

P.S Around half of Scotland want independence

Scotland may want Independence, that is distinct from a Republic.
The British Royal Family claim to the throne is via the Stuart line.
You might say that if Scotland recovered Independence, it would be England/Wales looking for a King?

Obviously. The Crown covers all UK countries - not just those under Westminster

We had a vote on that, only 45% wanted it. Amen.
Voting Population of Scotland or actual Scottish people with the vote dont forget everyone living in Scotland got to vote regardless of country of birth

And Scots who didn't live in Scotland didn't get to vote.
16 year old school bairns who were still sh¡tt¡ng yellow in the world of politics got to vote.
The S.N.Pee got to make up the rules but still didn't get over the winning line.

Do they know why?
I have no idea, patriotism/sovereignty means different things to different people, ultimately, they are not capable of objective analysis, but a kind of subjective belief, like religion, in each case with its upsides and downsides. I suppose each gives a sense of belonging, and security, like an extended family. Sadly, many people define how they belong by who they hate on the outside.
