Without penning a long post as to why I feel this way, do you feel that these days the phrase "we know the cost of everything, but the value of nothing" is apt ?
ue is what u think its was worth 
shouldnt that read we are made to feel the cost of everything?

Interesting point. I f'rinstance possess a tee-shirt upon which is painted a pithy little aphorism: No, I haven't got a f*cking nectar card!. This splendid item cost a paltry £1.99 (from that favoured emporium of the fashionisti: Camden Market). I would suggestr that its value is incalculable.
we live in a cynical, throwaway world where altruism is regarded as a weakness.

The reason I say this is that increasingly the UK seems to be obsessed with the cost of everything
For instance :-
Local post offices are shut down because they are not cost effective
Local schools are under threat because larger schools are more efficient.
National Jobs are outsourced bcause it is cheaper.
High streets around the country all look the same because independent shops cannot compete.
Local libraries close because they are not efficient.
Farmers sell produce at a loss becuase the Supermarkets (and by dint of this the consumers i.e us demand lower prices)
The cost of this really, well were all better off enconomically than we've ever been, but as a society, we haven't been so impoverished for a long time.

In a way this has been forced upon us with the ever upward spiralling of cost on utilities/petrol /food/ there is not much money left for luxuries so we go for the cheapest option.

The problem is a very real one. We've expanded our population because our resources allowed us to but now those resources are dwindling yet our population keeps growing.
We've reached the tipping point and it's all downhill from now on.
In 1950 the world population was 2.5 billion.
Less than 60 years on it is 6.5 billion.
The buck stops here.

Cost is irrelevant, it's a process developed by us to live an ordered life,some things should not have a "price", if we want to all live in a harmonius way then get rid of greed, share essentials between your brothers and sisters and to hell with money.
