I remember Tony Benn (using a variant of an Oscar Wilde quote) saying of Thatcher - She knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Would you say that the current government demonstrate a similar attitude, or perhaps one of these variations:

1/. ..know the cost of nothing and the value of nothing
2/. ..know the cost of nothing and the value of everything
3/. ..know the cost of everything and the value of everything

Which is the most desirable attitude to have when running a country? Not sure myself - 3/. sounds the best but I'm not sure it's altruistic enough :?

I don't know Dex. It sounds a bit stiff to me. Knowing the cost and value of everything might mean no flexability. Maybe no bargaining.

I think the present shower of s**te that pass for HM's Government, "know the value of their expenses forms intimately" And therefore "Know the value of lies lies and damn statistics" :D :D

Doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easily as the original quote

Does if you've had a few cans.
Reminds me of a mathematical procedure we had to understand when I was at college - the Gram Schmidt Orthonormalisation Procedure. Definitely needed a few beers to say that without stammering.

Don't know about that last bit LLL,

Golden Virginia hand roll and nothing added or taken away.

Looked at cig prices in a garage today. £6.12 for pack of 20. So glad I knocked it on the head
