Unable to remove tap tops from mixer tap

Hardly worth it for a one-off, or rather a two-off, but one something like this will do:

I have another which is made for the job, but I haven't seen it for sale in this country!
I would expect to be able to get the tops off with the methods outlined above. Do you understand what I meant by having the screw loose( A few turns)?
