my kitchen gully is blocked, i have put my hand down and have removed all the rubbish i can but water is still not going down! do i need drain rods or can i clear it with a chemical? any advice?

its definitly blocked at gully as toilet is flushing fine, i left it for five minutes and the water had gone???? any idea where i can buy some sort of metal grate which i can cut to size to avoid trhis problem in first place? eg wire mesh perhaps!
