hi helpers, I am planning to emulsion hallway from a torquise colour to ivory cream,, would it help if I emulsioned it white first just to lighten it then paint it with the ivory cream or will I just be waisiting my time

ive done a quick test putting straight on the torquise and looks like it would need 3 coats ! but with a coat of white maybe just one ? cheers PM

Depends on price, as coloured emulsion can be expensive, two coats is normally enough.

So if it works out cheaper to buy trade White, or magnolia, do that.

Just one point, if the paint of which you intend to cover in anyway offers a sheen such as silk, you should first lightly sand and dust off before you apply your emulsion.

I agree..but be prepared for it still to need three coats of the ivory!

A turquoise hallway sounds lively...

Using a white high opacity emulsion for the first coat may help you.

I have had crazing problems using Dulux Trade SuperMatt over (keyed) eggshell on walls, as a base coat. the crazing continued through subsequent coats of (finish) waterbased eggshell.

I no longer have faith in it as a colour obliterater and will now only consider using it on ceilings, even then only under duress given that it gets dirty so easily.
