This has caused me great distress reading in the last few hours, i feel like I have been robbed and it would be difficult to trust people from now on.

I think you need to get a full report done by an independent heating engineer and you then need to go to the builder and ask for the issues to be rectified. It may end up in court but better that than having to put up with this mess

If you do get a second opinion, get them to start from scratch.
What should the design be?
How should it be installed?
Hiw should it be commissioned?
Look at it as a system problem, not just and individual component issue.
