I have a 16mm O/D water pipe which I have managed to dent with a spade. Compression joints would be easiest for me - can they be used underground? Also, normal compession joints are 15mm standard. Any advice? (I have used Philmac connectors on alkathene pipes before but not sure if suitable for copper).

Compression fittings are standard and will be fine for underground. Unlikely I think to find a 15mm to 15mm Philmac so easily, (if at all).

If you are looking to use brass compression couplers for underground copper work - 15mm - you cant use normal Type A olive'd (non manipulative) couplers, they need to be Type B (manipulative (flaring))couplers.
