used under ground as in from the stop tap in the road to the rising main

I`m guessing it`s existing Soft Copper - old unsheathed . Mine`s still a no . Use manipulative compression fitting made of non dezincifiable brass

Well you can cut and solder a joint then.

But copper corrodes in soil without protection and moving it may cause more leaks.

Most would say its better to replace it with blue poly!
