i'm new to DIY so apologise if am too ignorant. after doing some reading i'm guessing i have a indirect boiling system, although have just come across the term primatic too and still figuring out what it is. i cannot understand the pipes fully as it is way too complicated but:
1) there are 2 tanks (A and B) that is at an elevation and made of plastic.
2) B has a smaller tank inside it (plastic), C, and mains water go into both B and C.
3) Pipes connect tank B to A so am assuming A is just a water storage tank
4) There is also another big tank (D) under all these tanks which also has a electric heater going into it. but that is switched off as am using gas heating.
with winter here, i have switched on the central heating system (thermostat at 25) and since then, tank C starts bubbling up with very hot water and rattles the pipework that goes from the bolier to the tank.
my questions:
1) what is tank B and C used for (the mother and child tank) and are they connected through a pipe or something?
2) in tank B and C should the water be hot or cold when the heater is running?
3) what is the best way to reduce the loud noise and the rattling
have had 2 plumbers come in, one says put some liquid, another says drain all the water. would be very thankful, if someone can explain the function of these tanks and the reason of the noise so that when i get the next plumber in, i can talk his talk.
