I have this double socket that does not sit flat to the wall, I think it was a single socket originally
and the previous owner fitted this one. See attached picture.
It irritates me whenever I see it.

Do these conversions ever sit flush to the wall? Should I try another one or if not I was thinking of having it
returned back to a single socket.

Should sit flush, perhaps a cable or debris is keeping it away. If you are happy to do so, turn the power off and remove it from the wall, don't disconnect any cables and put another pic on here.

If you are competant enough to do this safely then then the following might help (do not worry if you are not competant to do it yourself though just get someone who is, some people are are not competant yet don`t realise it!).

Right then, if you are capable and competant to do this safely power off and test for dead properly then unscrew thefixing screws and carefully and slowly draw away the socket from the wall, you might see the problem as something being trapped or the wall not nice and flat and level. First check the connections for tightness though otherwise the wires might fly out, make a note of which wire goes where incase they do come out or you need to remove them.

I need be completely remove the socket and connections (once noted) push the wires back in and place a nice flat level object over where the socket has been and this should reveal how flat and level the wall is. It will also allow you to see if the backbox is sitting nicely and no rubble or plaster stuck in.

Once you`ve done that then it should be able to fit properly once reconnected, also check the two fixing screws (there are usually two such accessory screws 2.5 mm on each socket or switch etc , check that they are not too long so so foul on the ottom of the box before tightened socket is back to the wall.

Only do all of this if you KNOW thet you can do it safely and correctly oterwise get someone else such as an Electrician to do it.
you only live once!
