Unidentified wiring...?

I am moving into a new house soon and I noticed in the hallway right next to the light switch, theres a small wire hanging out.


I noticed this in a new building recently too - just wondered what this wiring is? Could it be that my house has been pre-wired for an alarm?

your best bet is to ask the people who built your house,

but how many cores in the wire? what colours? what size?

If this is a 4/6 wire enclosed in a white outer sheath then this is most likely for an alarm system, not yet fitted.
Saves time and cable is cheap.

Next step will be installing Cat 5 cable to every room for IP'ing the house.
