The reason the Tories treat people like this is for the same reason they hunt foxes and that is because they can.
I would imagine even foxes have more legal protection than the disabled,

I hope this does not come to pass. This is tragic as this hits the poorest in society the hardest - who will become our next well educated workforce? As we don't want immigrants then we must produce a home grown workforce that has the skills the country needs.

How about punishing children if their parents are poor? Maybe you could arrange for them to be poorly fed, uneducated and have bad health and bad teeth as well. That should turn them into responsible citizens.

Relative poverty is a meaningless metric. What does it matter if the relatively poor children only live in palaces, while the rich live in mega-palaces?

That's a big question (two questions actually, since one is unwilling, the other is unable). To what extend should strangers, or the state, intervene in the upbringing of other people's children? To what level of moral imperative do we aim? How much of the parents' freedom may we confiscate? Big questions.

Poverty will rise as universal credit kicks in to more regions, there has been a slight uptick but projections are that come 2020 we will see more in poverty.
