In our kitchen there used to be a wall. The wall was brick, in an L shape and formed a bathroom. There was a partition within too, for the toilet (old 2 door rule between toilet and kitchen). Next doors is still like this. Ours was removed about 20 years ago when the 2 storey extension was built, adding another bedroom upstairs and thus space for the bathroom.

Now the thing is, the bathroom had floorboards and the kitchen had concrete! Madness, I know. There's a height difference of about 5mm, which is barely noticeable, and was sort of disguised by putting cement where the wall was and forming a slope. However it has always been difficult to find a floor covering that had this tolerance without looking crap. How would you level it? The concrete is 5mm lower.
