Unslotted waste slow to drain

I have a new basin with an unslotted (click-clack) waste and an AAV basin trap. Problem is that the water takes ages to drain. When I remove the click-clack, the water drains fine and there is no blockage in the drain pipe. I have replaced the unit, but the problem persists. Is there a method of adjusting the mechanism please? Photos attached.

P.I.T.A. Bin it and get a swivel/flip type instead.
