I've been reading up on changing light fittings and am going to replace a batten fitting with a pendant.

The thing that is worrying me is that when we first moved in the electrics didn't work upstairs which ended up being down to the light fitting being 'dodgy'. The electrician took quite a while to fix it and when he left he said 'that's going to confuse the next person to do anything with that light'.

I can't work out what could be so unusual about a standard light fitting? The boiler is on the same loop apparently - could this be what is odd about the situation. I just want to know what to look out for.

Either I can't think of anything or it could be anything.

Perhaps it was he who is confused.

First step - take off the light fitting without disconnecting any wires if possible and post a picture of what you can see.

carefully unscrew it (with MCB off) and post a photo.

see if we can spot anything odd.

I guess that is what happens when a boiler is fitted in the loft!
