My house was built in 2001 and I had the carpets done all around the house but when someone is walking upstairs I can hear click and other noises and I can also hear walking noises while I'm watching TV downstairs
Cracking/creaking is caused by things rubbing or moving. Usually chipboard is used for flooring, and fixing this is solved by adding lots of extra screws, doesn’t always work, it can be hard to diagnose exactly what is rubbing what but it is commonly the chipboard.
Footfall is just lack of overall sound proofing, insulation between the joists will help, or installing another layer of plasterboard on the ceiling attached to resilient bars.
