the door insert in my upvc front door has cracked round the letter box, can this panel be replaced as it held in place by a bead the same type as the window. if so where can you get one?

yes it can be replaced if it is removable, try and find a local upvc window firm that manufacturer their own products and have a word with them.
You should also check out the UPVC trade outlets in your area & ask about replacing the panel with a high security unit. The standard polystyrene sandwich offering is a burglars dream as they can be drilled & cut through in seconds with a re-chargeable drill & a jig saw!
