Hi

I am going to replace our existing wood fascia and soffit boards with UPVC from B&Q ( they appear reasonable????) and wondered the best way to install, do you remove the existing wood that is in not bad condition, or fasten the UPVC onto the existing wood, Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Ian

Personally I'd go for this stuff, it looks cracking and lasts as long as upvc:

Its also cheaper than upvc:

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp;jsessionid=D0AUY2P55WSQOCSTHZOCFFA?id=68713&ts=57798

It would be better to remove the existing, even if its in good nick at the mo as it'll only rot in time but thats up to you, B&Q seem expensive by the way.

Don’t use cheap/thin cover boards over rotting timber, it will continue to rot away & spread into the roof trusses. Take the old timber off & fit full weight replacement boards double nailed over new soffits. Have a look here;

http://www.fascias.com/index.html?target=dept_120.html&lang=en-gb

They sell everything your ever likely to need; good prices, in 4m lengths & will deliver; next day if you really want it. I’ve used them a few times myself.

if the upvc is 18mm its structural so you remove the timber underneath

if its 9mm its cladding and you need to repair the timber underneath removing and replacing any decayed timber
