Using toothed plate connectors

I am using 3" single sided TP connectors.

They are pretty big and will sit between steel plates and a wooden truss.

I just wondered if anyone has used them before. I need to bolt through a truss and place metal plates both sides. i will then tighten up the bolts either side. Will this tensioning press the TPC into the wood? I have just tried hammering them into the wood and they didnt budge really. I am hoping they will be slowly compressed into the wood via the tension of the bolt.

any knowledge of using these? I also have to use them on modern joist and i assume this wood will be a bit softer than my 100 yr old truss.

We locate them into position then let the force of the tightening thread do the rest.

Sometimes we may tap 'em lightly into position if more than two pairs of hands is needed to hold them in place.
