Using TRV on a radiator as on/off valve

Is it quite in order to use a TRV as an on/off valve to shut off a radiator in a bedroom during the day when it is not required or could this cause damage to it?

Or is there another way I could do this?

I don't see the point in heating an empty room for several hours a day

Funny you should say that.

In the flat we have just moved from, the only TRV that went on the bum was the one that was very rarely turned on or off from one year to the next, believe it or not
