Hi

i live in a new house but had to change the pan in the downstairs loo. I can always smell the sowers now or something not that nice. Should the waste pipe be fixed in place as it very easy to move around? why does the room smell??

please help

The waste pipe should be pretty secure....if you can wave it around its a sure sign that one of the joints have parted.
John :)

You'll have to expose all of the connections on the soil pipe, from the toilet pan right through to the main soil vent pipe, unfortunately.

the soil vent pipe is under the floor, should i just pull the waste pipe out of the floor and see if there is something i can do? what sort of conectors will there be?

Find a bucket

You have a loose connection so find the joint that moves and that is it. Joints will only have movement if they are not pushed fully in or the joint is not made right although it depends on what joint. Pan connector joints will move because of their design but all others are quite rigid. If you cannot move the joint fully home you may need to replace a piece of pipe with a slightly longer piece. Then band it in place so it cannot move.
New houses are notorious for bad workmanship. If the builder is still on site get on to the agent to get it fixed.
