I use ovals in a multi-burner stove. Emptying the ash causes lots of fine dust, is there a smallish cleaner that would do the job ?

There are dedicated cleaners especially for ash, which have particularly good filters......I wouldn't use it for anything else though!
Another type actually goes between a standard 'Henry' type vac and the fireplace - thats what chimney sweeps use. Other than calling it an ash collector, I can't remember its proper name!

Edit.....Machine Mart 050519130.

I would doubt you'll find a domestic cleaner that will cope with that type of dust long term. Any cyclone cleaner will probably need the filter cleaned after every use, and I suspect most would blow half what its collected back into the room....

The device in John's link may suit your needs but if not, and the dust is a real problem, then you maybe better off looking at industrial machines, e.g. Numatic. Not cheap but will offer the level of filtration needed to retain fine dusts. http://www.numatic.co.uk/index.aspx

Used to be able to get an airfresher to put in the vacuum cleaner, not sure if they're still made or if they would even work in a cyclone type cleaner!

My sweep uses a Numatic vacuum I think, looks like a small oil drum with a motor on top! Has Hospital standard filters, 2 of, which he said were several £hundred each.....

I use a Machine Mart Earlex.....noisy as hell but cheap. I use the bag filter inside, but either the exhaust goes out of the window courtesy of the spare hose, or I tie another bag over the exhaust. Best I can do!
