vaillant 242 e CH works fine but no DHW

They probably keep that part in stock.

I don't but have the 4.5 mm drill and the 5 mm tap available.

Simple and quick job.

When I repair on a fixed fee I cannot afford to make return visits. Its also cheaper for the customer!

Fair one, service kit can be bought for this model,I didn`t read model properly, sue me.

i have drilled the screw out and re tapped an new one in which worked fine. i also opened up the water section and the diaphragm wasnt split but it did seem stretched. i cleaned and greased it put it back together and i the hot water came on when drawn from the bath tap but not the shower? is this beacuse the tap draws more water? after turning the hot tap on and off for 5 min to see if it worked correctly it suddenly stopped engaging the switch. it also seems to be leaking from the top of the valve, not a constant drip but once every few minetes leaks for a few secs then stops. ive ordered a new bracket for the sake of £13 and a new diaphragm is on the way. when i fit the new diaphragm is it likley to work and stop the leak or am am i going to need a new water section or could the problem lie else where? i really apreciate the help so far and i would like nothing more to call an experianced engineer who knows yhier stuff but theres no way in the world i can afford it.
cheers guys

Replace the stuffing box too (the gland on top of the water section). Check the venturi inside the water section is clean.

when the water section is functioning properly is there ment to be water in the top chamber above the diaphragm containing the spring and the rod or is it normally dry?

No that's for a different boiler.

The diaphragm is around 70mm diameter and has a hole in the middle depending on whether you have the "temperature" control knob on the front of the water section.

Just get the diaphragm and stuffing box. Clean the water section venturi etc and should be fine.

Just go on ebay an buy a new water section mate ur getting a whole lot of trouble trying to recon the unit. It may gave a busted flow regulator or diaphram or both. By the time u messed about with it u could get a new one. 011296 on ebay will do it £67 :D
